The Finnish-Led Common Armoured Vehicle System Program Progresses

CAVS Program Continues to Make Strides After IAV 2023

Joint European Program for Modernizing Armored Vehicles

The Finnish-led 66 Common Armoured Vehicle System (CAVS) program continues its development following insights gained at Defense IQ's International Armoured Vehicles (IAV) 2023 conference. The CAVS program, initially established by Finland and Latvia, has since expanded to include Sweden and Germany. It is a collaborative effort to create a modernized armored vehicle system. The CAVS program's mission is to introduce a common armored vehicle platform that meets the diverse requirements of participating nations. This would streamline procurement, maintenance, and interoperability within the European defense community. The program is currently in the early stages of development, with the aim of fielding the first vehicles in the late 2020s. Finland and Latvia were the founding members of the CAVS program in 2021. They were joined by Sweden in 2022 and Germany in early 2023. Other European nations have expressed interest in joining the program in the future.
