The Controversial Karen Read Murder Trial
Allegations Not Likely to Convince Jury, Attorneys Say
Motion Hearing Held Outside Courthouse
Karen Read's attorneys are confident that the murder allegations against her will not be accepted by a jury. Read is accused of killing her boyfriend, Boston Police Officer John O'Keefe, by hitting him with her car and leaving his body in the snow.
"The allegations that Karen killed her boyfriend will not make any sense to a jury," said one of Read's attorneys, Brad Bailey. "There is no evidence to support these claims, and we are confident that Karen will be found not guilty."
Read spoke outside of the courthouse following a motions hearing on Tuesday, April 16, 2024. She claimed that there is a conspiracy to frame her for O'Keefe's murder.
"I am innocent," Read said. "I did not kill John. I loved him, and I would never do anything to hurt him."
Read's trial is scheduled to begin on Monday, April 22, 2024. The controversial case will also be featured on an upcoming episode of NBC's Dateline, as revealed by the TODAY show on Monday.
