Antetokounmpo Leads Greece to Olympic Return

Riga, Latvia - Four teams have secured the final spots for the men's basketball tournament at the Olympic Games Paris 2024.

The first round of the FIBA Olympic Pre-Qualifying Tournaments took place at the continental level in August 2023 and provided 40 countries that did not automatically qualify for the tournament with a chance to advance to the next round. The 24 countries that advanced from the Pre-Qualifying Tournaments competed in the FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournaments in Latvia and Serbia in February 2024.

In the Riga tournament, Greece, coached by Giannis Antetokounmpo's father, Thanasis, defeated Latvia in a thrilling final to secure its place in the Olympics. Antetokounmpo, the two-time NBA MVP, led the way for Greece, averaging 22.7 points, 10.5 rebounds, and 4.5 assists per game.

The other three teams to qualify for the Olympics were Italy, Slovenia, and France. Italy defeated Ukraine in the final of the Belgrade tournament, while Slovenia defeated Germany and France defeated Serbia in the other two semi-finals. The four teams will join the eight teams that automatically qualified for the Olympics based on their FIBA World Ranking, including the United States, Spain, and Argentina.
