Donald Harris: The Father of Kamala Harris
Early Life and Education
Kamala Harris's father, Donald Harris, was born in Jamaica in 1938. He immigrated to the United States in 1961 to attend the University of California, Berkeley, where he earned a Ph.D. in economics in 1966.
Academic Career
After graduating from Berkeley, Donald Harris joined the faculty of Stanford University as an economics professor. He taught at Stanford for 30 years, retiring in 2005. During his tenure, he published numerous scholarly articles and books on economic development and inequality.
